The first life insurance policy recorded and available dates back four hundred and twenty five years eigth months and one day i.e 425 yrs 8 months and 1 day.
The year was 1583, month of June and the day was 18th.
Mr Richard Martin, citizen and alderman of LONDON procured the policy on the life of Mr William Gybbons, a citizen and salter of LONDON.
The amount of the policy was pounds 383-6-8 and the premium for 12 months was 8% thereof i.e pounds 30-13-4.
The policy began with the words:
“In the name of god, Amen” and continued……..
